Summer festivals in Vaucluse: ask for the program!
Festival d'Avignon, the theater city
It's THE must-see summer event in Vaucluse, welcoming tens of thousands of lovers of contemporary performing arts from all over the world. Founded in 1947 by Jean Vilar, the Avignon Festival, which celebrates its 77th edition this year, runs from July 5 to 25, showcasing performances in some 35 venues in and around the city. Just as eagerly awaited, its corollary, the Off Festival, will bring together 1,600 shows from July 7 to 29, testifying to the richness and diversity of the national and international artistic scene. Children's audiences are also catered for, with the Festival le Totem, which also illustrates the vitality of contemporary creation in this field: theater, puppetry, circus, music, improvisational theater, object theater, visual and sound poetry...
Carpentras brings out the sunbeds
Carpentras hardly stands out from its illustrious neighbor. The capital of Comtat Venaissin hosts no fewer than eight themed festivals, most of them free, between late June and early September. These include Nuit du Blues, Hola Fiesta Bodegas, Kolorz Festival (electronic music), Classique au clair de lune, Festival des Cultures et Musiques Juives, and Guinguettes de l'Auzon (world music). This year's Trans'art headliners: This year's Trans'art headliners include Julien Clerc (June 29), BigFlo et Oli (July 20) and Claudio Capeo (July 30)... There's something for everyone!
And all the while, Vaison dances...
While Orange's Antic Theater resonates with the lyrical arias of its famous Chorégies festival from June 19 to July 24, then with the electro universe of the Positiv Festival from August 18 to 20, the town of Vaison-la-Romaine will be the setting for the 27th edition of Vaison Danses. From July 11 to 26, Vaison-la-Romaine will once again be inviting some of the biggest names on the international scene: the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, the XY company (a group of acrobats from Lille), the Taiwanese contemporary dance company B.Dance, the Hervé Koubi company, and the Preljocaj ballet.
The arts take to the streets of Pernes-les-Fontaines
Finally, in Pernes-les-Fontaines, the street arts take center stage from August 4 to 6 with the 25th edition of Font'Arts. The program for this entirely free festival, which brings the streets, parks and squares of the town to life, includes shows of all kinds and for all audiences: theater, contemporary circus, music, dance, magic, pyrotechnics, puppets, storytelling...
And that's not counting the enjoyable evenings offered throughout the summer in the region's wineries, or the many votive festivals that bring villages and hamlets to life...
